Not a liability!
An opportunity.

The educational experience that I have enjoyed while attending UCF has mirrored a “spiritual awakening” in my life. Let me explain. One might consider living with diabetes as I have for 32 years as a liability or handicap. Diabetes has certainly presented me with many difficult issues to overcome. In fact, through consultation and prayer a spiritual calling has actually been realized and fulfilled. First, by pursuing a degree in nursing and a subsequent 1000-hour internship to receive certification in diabetes education. I was fortunate enough to be able to turn a so-called weakness into great strength and hope that I am now able to share with others.
My career proved to be both satisfying and fulfilling. There was an ingredient still lacking in my estimation. I considered seeking a Masters degree in Nursing. At that point, I sought counsel at the University of Central Florida with Mr. Raphel Robinson and later Dr. Jo Ann Whiteman. A new vision came to light in the form of a degree in Technical Education & Industry Training. After all, in my present position I was a trainer.
This current leg of my educational process has proven to be quite fruitful. I have been able to break down my perceived barriers to modern technology as it is utilized in today's classroom. My communication and teaching skills have been honed to a level that I thought not possible for someone with my ethnic roots. Today, I serve as a team leader on a professional level where I am employed. Leading a community group that serves the local diabetic population completes my spiritual mission.
The future holds many possibilities for me as I continue down the path of life. This program has been an integral part of my growth process. I shall always be grateful to the instructors that have helped me in my journey. My hope and desire is to touch lives in a positive manner, as has been my experience to date.
Thank you to all, Christine Goudreau
