Course Description

As a continuation of RTE 3684, this course is designed to further investigate the physical principles of radiographic imaging. The content includes a quantitative approach to radiation interactions, attenuation, equipment characteristics, detection and measurement, patient and personnel exposure and dose considerations. State and federal guidelines and regulations regarding diagnostic imaging are also discussed.

Course Goals

1. Distinguish among the units of radiation measurement.

2. Relate the processes of radiation interaction & attenuation to imaging, absorbed dose and shielding.

3. Distinguish among the types of radiographic generators.

4. Distinguish among the various methods and devices used to detect and measure radiation.

5. Identify national guidelines and state and federal regulations regarding radiation protection.
