Rolls
Before performing the forward and backward roll, gymnasts should have a lot of experience with the Foundation Skills for Rolls and the Back Rocker Progression.
Forward and Backward
A roll can be performed on an incline mat (wedge), on level floor, on top of folded mats or beam. Start with an incline mat with each new roll.
The forward and backward roll consists of a beginning position, a roll, and a finish. There are many combinations to try. Some possible choices follow.
