Travel Your Name
Nic Ledford
Purpose Objectives:
To work on spelling while at the same time practicing the different pathways and locomotor skills.
Materials and Equipment:
Laminated sheets (8x11 in.) with all the letters of the alphabet (one large letter per sheet). Additional directions on each sheet such as mode of travel to the next letter, pathway, and/or flow (bound or free may be included, depended on reading level of children, Tape player and appropriate high energy music.

Organizational Patterns:
The students should stand in the middle of the room with the papers all around them. It should preferably be a room with four walls.
Description:
Tape laminated alphabet sheets to the walls at various places around the gym. When the music begins, have the students skip in a straight path to the first letter of their name. Have them touch the letter and then they are to travel to the next letter using the form of travel and pathway you have specified for them. You may write the form of travel and pathway on each letter if you wish.
Modifications:
For older children (grades 3-5), get spelling lists from the classroom teacher. Put difficult words on cards for the children to draw from and spell as they travel.
