Rip Off

Purpose:

Have students practice striking with long handle implement.

Equipment:

Cones to define playing area, enough plastic hockey sticks or pillo polo sticks for each student, yarn balls or plastic pucks for each student

Orgainizational pattern:

Every student for themselves.

Directions:

As students enter the gym or playing area ask them to get a yarn ball and a hockey or pillo polo stick and then they are to find a good self space in the coned off playing area. Explain the safety tips of using hockey sticks (see below). Have two students give you their yarn ball (or puck).

On the teachers signal, everyone is to start to dribble their pucks throughout the designated playing area. The two without pucks are trying to take pucks from those who have them. When they do take them successfully then the student who had their puck "ripped off" tries to take a puck from others who are dribbling in the area. Continue this for 4-5 minutes.

Variations:

  • Take more pucks away from more students and the activity gets more difficult.
  • May want to designate a safety zone where dribblers can go for no more than 30 seconds and only 3-4 people are allowed in at a time. In there no one can take their puck.
