Joanne M. Landy and Maxwell J. Landy, Ready to Use P.E Activities for Grades 7-9. Parker Publishing Co., 1993.
Purpose:
To develop striking skills and foster team work.
Materials needed:
One blow up beach volleyball or utility ball per game, cones, scooters.
Organizational pattern:
Two teams per game. Use cones to mark out a playing area of 25 meters. Each team occupies one half of the play area. Two of the players on each team serve as defenders on the designated goal lines.
Description of the Activity:
The object of the game is to push the ball over the oppsition's goal line to score a goal. Players use their hands like hockey sticks to move the ball, but do not kick, throw or loft the ball. Defenders may take one step into the playing area when handling the ball. After a certain amount of time, the defenders and active players should change places.
Modifications:
Have the students play a game of Hand Hockey while sitting upon scooter boards. You can also decrease team size to make it more competitive, as well as increase or decrease the amount of defenders per team.
