The Machine
Dr. Debby Mitchell
University of Central Florida
ORGANIZATION:
- Groups of approximately 5-8.
- Groups will make up some kind of machine with at least four moving parts. They will practice as a group how their machine moves.
- After they have determined their machine add another challenge. Tell the students that three of the four parts will move on different beats.
- In a four beat timing sequence the first part will move every beat, the second will move every other beat and the third will move every fourth beat. The fourth moving part can move to which ever beat he or she chooses.
Some examples:ATM, blender, mixer, washing machine, etc.
(Hint: don't give the class an example, this allows for them to be imaginative, and you won't be yelled at for stealing their idea)
