Spiders and Flies

Grade:

3-5

Skill:

Chasing, Fleeing, Dodging

Purpose:

To have students practice their chasing, fleeing, dodging

Materials:

cones or flag markers, any safe equipment that can be easily grasped i.e. Hopes, bean bags, pinnies

Organizational Pattern:

Square or Rectangles, with smaller square inside.

Description:

Equipment is scattered inside smaller square. Two to three taggers are then chosen from the group. (wearing pennies) the taggers try to guard the equipment inside the smaller square from the non-taggers. At the go signal the non-taggers try to recover equipment and bring it home to the beginning point or line or area. Taggers are only allowed inside the larger square. If non-tagger is tagged, they become taggers (wearing a pennie).Non-taggers are safe any time they get cross into the home area. Students should work together to either get non-taggers tagged, or to retrieve the equipment.

Modifications:

Make it harder, by starting with more taggers, or naming a specific body part to be tagged, having them where only socks in a gym. Make it easier by not having as much equipment, or only one tagger.
