9-1-1 Tag Game

Purpose Objectives:

To recognize heart attack symptoms and know what to do in an emergency. To improve cardiovascular endurance.

Materials and Equipment:

Two or three nerf balls and six to eight cones.

Organizational Patterns:

The playing area should be about the size of a basketball Court, depending on how many kids there are. All of the children are to stay in the boundaries at all times. There are to be two to three taggers who tag the rest of the bunch with soft nerf balls.

Description:

All students are to be told the proper procedures to call 911. They are then to be explained what heart attack symptoms are and what to do in that kind of emergency. Mark out an area the size of a basketball court. Select two or three taggers, who try to touch students with nerf balls between the shoulders and waist. When a player is tagged the first time he or she continues to play holding their left arm above the elbow with their right hand. A second tag and the player grabs their chest with both of their hands. A third tag and the player freezes, grabs their throat, and shouts "911"! They are then freed by completing ten jumping jacks with a player that has not been tagged.

Modifications:

You can change the type of activity on the third tag. Change taggers every two minutes. You can make designated blood clot dissolving medication students who are the only ones who may save the victims.
