Paper Bag Activities
Echo Game
- You will need brown paper bags, one for each student.
- Pass out Paper Bag Drums.
- When all students are in a circle have them put their bags on the floor in front of them.
- Tell them that these are their drums and let them play and explore with them for a moment.
- Then have them echo rhythms that you beat out on the drum.
- The teacher beats out a rhythm on the paper bag and then students "echo" and repeat the rhythm.
- For young children or those who cannot keep a steady beat, begin with steady beat patters of three or less beatss
- You must give them a way to know when you have finished your beats. For example, put your hands up. That way the students know when to start. Start easy and as the students are able to follow the pattern get more complicated with your beats. Make them work.
After this have the group divide into partners. They will take turns leading and echoing on the bags.
