Alphabet Ball

Objective:

Students will perform ball handling skills while creatively chanting a poem.  Students will continue making up new names, places, and article to sell with the letters of the alphabet.

"A" my name is Alex,
My wife's name is Anna,
I come from Alaska,
And we sell apples.

"B" my name is Betty,
My husband's name is Bob,
I come from Boston,
And we sell bottles.

"C" my name is Chris,
My wife's name is Clara,
I come from China,
And we sell cats.
(Withers, 1988)

Progressions:

  1. Perform a ball handling stunt on each "alphabet" word (around the waist, head, legs: perform a figure either, pass to partner, etc.)
  2. Play a game with a partner.  Alternate making up the verse.  Pass the ball to the partner on the "alphabet" word.

-Partner 1 makes up a new name on line one.
-Partner 2 makes up a new name on line two.
-Partner 1 makes up a place name on line three
-Partner 2 makes up article to sell on line four
