Foreign Languages - Multimedia, Netmeeting, and Video Conferencing

Aim:   Improve foreign languages lessons on high school (Czech-English, Czech-???)
Participants:  Students at Gymnasium F.X.Saldy, CZ aged 15-18, participants of Global School Network (GSN) and Computer Pals Across the World (CPAW)

Software Requirements: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Netshow server, Windows 98 with Internet Explorer  4.0, Netmeeting, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Frontpage
Hardware Requirements: Videoconferencing kit, CCD camera, multimedia PCs, scanner

Output: Case study in English, Czech

Schedule: Should start as soon as possible, expected December 1998

0. week: training teachers to use equipment, testing connections, finding the most suitable videoconferencing program.
1. week: Introductory week – opening videoconference, expected length one hour, coordinators and headperson speeches.
2. week: Selecting project topics, arranging cross-school teams, first assignments (prepare information about team members), expected 4 teams with 3-6 members
3. week: Learning how to work with Powerpoint, using Netmeeting to share application, prepared assignment will be converted into Powerpoint
4. week: Evaluation of presentation by other teams, teachers meeting
5. week: Consulting project topics in videoconference – closed for public
6. week: Preparing final presentation
7. week: Final presentation I – open to public
8. week: Final presentation II – open to public
9. week: Evaluating projects both students and teachers
10. week: Closing videoconference – headperson speeches

Presentation of used ICT at Poskole 99, and on other conferences, if possible

Offering help to other schools, which would like to use ICT in foreign language lessons (both Czech and English)
