Description:
The Calendar of National Days is an international classroom collaboration project.  Classrooms and schools from every nation volunteer as "hosts" to represent their country by creating and maintaining a Web site which is linked to the Calendar, and serves as an introduction to their nation, its people, land, culture, customs, arts, and history.

Educational Values
Because it involves researching, selecting, and organizing information about their own country, the Calendar Project is a teaching opportunity involving high-order conceptual learning, Internet research and publishing skills, and multiple domains and subject areas such as:

as well as an opportunity to meet and make friends in cyberspace from all over the world, and to participate in other CPAW-sponsored projects.

Technical Considerations
Hosts must be able to create and maintain a permanent and reliable Web site.  CPAW is not able to offer Web hosting services at this time.  The CPAW staff and members can provide limited technical advice, but are not a technical support organization - hosts are expected to be technically competent to create and maintain their own Web sites.

Languages
Multi-lingual sites are acceptable, but must include an English version for the primary link.

Multiple Hosts
The first volunteer host from a nation becomes the primary host, but should work in cooperation with other classrooms from the same country by building a hyperlinked network among participants.  This project is intended to be open-ended and continuous.

Special International Days
In addition to days of national celebration, the Calendar Project includes international days of awareness such as World Environment Day (June 5) and International Day For the Elderly (Oct 1).  Each of these days provides an excellent catalyst for collaborative Web projects.
