International Writers' Week 1999
(Project Completed)

------

Once again Wannaiassa High School is proud to coordinate the annual "CPAW International Writers' Week". This will be the fourth consecutive year that WHS has coordinated this national and international event.

The two aims of the project are:
(a) to encourage students to communicate (face-to-face and online) with invited professional writers throughout the world on the craft of writing and to share their writing with them;

b) to provide opportunities for student writers to share their writing with fellow student writers throughout the world.

The Story of International Writers' Week

When students from Turramurra High School in Sydney, Australia were writing to their Alaskan computer pals at Alak High School in Wainwright (on the Arctic Coast of Alaska) asking them questions about the natural environment of "Julie of the Wolves",  little did the Australian students know that the author herself, Jean Craighead George, was visiting Alak and would be there to reply "in person"!

This amazing coincidence was the beginning of the annual CPAW International Writers' Week, with Ms. George as the official Patron.
