This course focuses on the problems and issues associated with race, ethnic and gender relations in the administration of justice in a democratic society.

There are three equally important parts to the class. Each part of the class builds on concepts and issues from the others.
Part One
The perspective taken in this course comes from Anthropology. Specifically, you will be expected to read a text, which explains diversity with reference to the study and examination of culture. The idea is to take a broad perspective on differences in U.S. life.

Part Two
The concepts are further explored by means of movies. Specifically you will be expected to watch and answer review questions for ten videos, which illustrate diversity with reference to cases and situations. The idea is to develop some contexts for the concepts and issues having to do with culture.

Part Three
The ideas are made more personal by involving you in exercises. Specifically you will be expected to complete ten directed exercises from a text and carry on active discussions with a small group of class members. The exercises are found in a primer on diversity which provides background and explanations. The idea is to focus on specific aspects of the concepts.
