COMPUTER USE IN SCHOOLS   -   A SURVEY

This is a survey being conducted by Ms Vanessa Marinho, CPAW Director for Brazil. We do hope you will assist her.

Introduction

I am a computer science teacher and I work at ColŽgio Pedro II, Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. ColŽgio Pedro II is a federal institution which was founded
almost two hundred years ago, with over thirteen thousand students attending
elementary and high school levels. There are four school branches for the
elementary level (Unidades Escolares I – UEI) and seven others for the
secondary and high school levels (Unidades Escolares II and III – UEII and
III) located in the South and North Zones of the City of Rio de Janeiro. The
pedagogical guidelines have a permanent focus on improving the quality of
its teaching methods. This accounts for the success of the work carried out
by the institution, which is acknowledged both on a national and
international basis and which has led to massive investments on the field of
computer sciences on an educational basis.

The Computer Sciences staff working at Unidade Escolar Humait‡ II of ColŽgio
Pedro II has gained considerable experience on matters related specifically
to multicultural projects developed in accordance with the resources and
learning environment which are provided by the Internet.  Over twenty
projects have already been carried out, involving teachers as well as
students from all around the world.

At this moment, I am beginning to do some research on how elementary and/or
high schools develop their activities using computers and the Internet. Therefore, if possible, I would like to obtain some information regarding this issue in your school.

Thank you very much, Vanessa Marinho
