2007 INTERNATIONAL WRITERS WEEK - POETIC LANDSCAPES - Message from the CPAW President.

Celebrating 25 Years of Service to Teachers, Students and the Community in linking students from around the world in a virtual reality context !

LIGHTHOUSES OF THE WORLD

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the “Computer Pals Across the World” Global Educational Network

In Honour of our President Dr Gillian Eriksson

Throughout the centuries and around the world, lighthouses have guided sailors and ships safely to their destination. Likewise the CPAW network has guided teachers, students and community members in the use of state-of-the art telecommunications technology for use in the global classroom, for twenty-five years. To celebrate CPAW’s 25 year milestone, we at Queanbeyan High School, in Australia invite you to join the celebration by being part of the “Lighthouses of the World” project.

What do you need to do?

Please respond to the following tasks by providing:

• the name of your school or educational/community institution. • the country in which you live • your email address • the name of your nearest lighthouse or one that you have visited • location of the lighthouse • an original jpeg photo of the lighthouse with name of photographer • the height of the lighthouse • whether it is active or deserted • the date built and brief details of its history • details about the light such as the size and numbers of watts • any other information you think would be of interest

How will the information be used? With this information we will construct a website, linked to the CPAW site, which will acknowledge your contribution and be a resource for teachers, students and community members. Thank you for helping us compile this information.

International Writer's Week 2008! THEME: POETIC LANDSCAPES

SEE THE 2007 RESULTS OF THIS WONDERFUL PROJECT!

This is an annual project that links students around the world with authors to explore THIS special theme and generate creative writing. Student writers and professional writers share their poetry based on the theme "Poetic Landscapes", where poetry expresses something about one's culture. The poems highlight the differences in the world, which we should embrace. Please send your poems and greetings to the coordinating school. Any student or professional writer who would like to be involved in the future projects is invited to contact the coordinating school at the following address: Queanbeyan High School: IWW@mail.queanbeyan-h.schools.nsw.edu.au

GREETINGS TO ONE OF OUR MOST SENIOR COMPUTER PALS!

Dear Computer Pals,

Our mother, Marie Nelson, is moving to Lincoln, Nebraska in the United States next month. We are all quite excited at her being close to us here. Our parents moved into the Duncan Avenue address in August 1944 (from teaching in Chappell); we four lived there until moving down the street to 1020 in late 1964.

It would be nice if you'd drop her a note of well wishes on sixty plus successful years in Alliance - with a favorite story of time well spent in Alliance - and best wishes for her move to Lincoln. I'm certain she'd appreciate a message from you to:gnelson@inebraska.com From Greg Nelson
